The Mainit hotsprings in Bontoc
May 4, 2008HOW TO GET THERE:
From Manila, you can get a direct trip to Bontoc with Dangwa Transit. You need to make sure you have your hair tied and your head covered or you might need an entire day to untangle. Dangwa transit has no aircon so you get to enjoy the breeze while traveling.
For those who would like to travel in class, you can get a ride to Baguio at Victory Liner in Pasay or Cubao. Once in Baguio, you look or the Dangwa Transit station at the back of Baguio Center Mall. This is near the market, you can ride the taxi to get there. Again, take the rideto Bontoc.
Once in Bontoc, you can charter a jeepney to the hotsprings or you can wait for the PUJs which load at 1pm and 2pm. Travel time from Bontoc is 30 minutes by jeep or 1-2 hours by foot.
WHERE TO STAY:
Some of the locals offer their houses as lodging. Unfortunately, there aren’t any amenities such as what you’re used to in the city. be prepared to take a bath outdoors, amidst nature and all its glory.
OTHER PLACES IN MOUNTAIN PROVINCES THAT YOU CAN VISIT:
Bontoc is just one of the towns in the Mt. Provinces. Aside from the Mainit Hot Springs, you can also visit the following tourist attactions:

- Sagada Caves
- Mornng Hot Springs: located 4 kms from Barlig town proper
- Sadanga Hot Springs: 28km from Bontoc, this one has bathroom facilities (yey!)
- Mt. Clitoris (I know, I know): formerly known as Mount Mogao; this mountain is considered sacred and is best appreciated during dusk
- Mt. Amoyao
- Besao Sunset
- Alab Petroglyh
- Chico river
- Cagubatan enchanted eels
- Man Made:
- Rizal Memorial Plaza in Bontoc
- Mountain Province trade center
- Rice terraces in Bontoc, Bauko, Besao, Sagada, Sadanga, Natonin and Barlig (yes, the rice terraces aren’t just found in Banaue. It is said that these terraces in Mt. Provinces are more glorious than those in Ifugao)
