My way of expressing emotions has always been through writing and photography. Water and nature have always been my comfort zone. Once I dreamt of showing the world what my eyes see. Armed with a digicam and my laptop, now I can!

The Confessions of a Bag Queen

November 13, 2009

My heart is beating faster than usual. Even my sweat glands are a bit agitated. NO, I’m not bound for the emergency room; I am actually in front of my computer, browsing my favorite website which showcases every single to die for bag on sale in every existing store in this planet called earth. It has become a secret hobby for me. I mean; to shop via the internet. It saves me a lot of foot spas and back rubs. Not to mention bumping into one or two of ex-boyfriends with their current flames flaunting ultra mini-skirts in complete contrast to plain old me in my pony tails. Got it?

The queer part of my hobby though, I do not go for those Hermes bags on sale (as if I can afford one, really). I look for and collect backpacks, camping backpacks and laptop bags. The reason for such is, aside from the fact that there aren’t much social gatherings in my life to flaunt a Hermes, I live to travel. It all started from a simple admiration to Dora the Explorer and her adventures (as a kid) to National Geography (during college days) and to the actual airline bookings (at present). I can say that not one of my travels can do without the aid of one of my backpacks or even my laptop bag, which is as important as my passport (I need to be “connected” at all times). Be it my Dickies (surfing in Hawaii), the Eastpack (perfect match for the Grand Canyon), or a Nike (a doll in Vegas) and The North Face (incomparable in the Alps of Mt Fuji), I just cannot leave home without one. As you can see, these bags mean more than just bags for me. Even the smallest of detail has contributed either to my comfort or needs in my adventures and travels around the globe. Every single bag has to “bid” before I decide which one to take on a particular trip. The Eastpack is known for its extra compartments (for those wet wipes and Lifesavers candy), Nike on the other hand, is sturdy and light (perfect for an extra pair of shoes and shirt in an afternoon of a sweaty badminton match) and The North Face is a popular camping backpack and is sure not to break your back in your hiking trips. The list goes on…

I haven’t noticed that I have already written an entire page solely dedicated for my undying admiration of my bags. There’s just so much to tell when you are passionate about something. My travels and adventures will not end the way this piece will have to end in its last word. I and my backpack have yet lots of places to visit. The bid is on.
