The Dream Destination of the Wooden Airplane
December 19, 2009
I cannot help but smile as a look at a mother and her son in complete awe of the sky and some scattered cirrus clouds. The mother was eagerly pointing her finger at the images of what seemed like enormous elephants while her son (open-mouthed) is snuggling beside her to have a clear view. “Flying for the first time boy?” I asked. The lad gently nodded (eyes wide). I too, started reminiscing while looking at my crumpled airline ticket.
It started out as an infatuation with a wooden airplane given to me by my grandfather. I just cannot believe a thing like that (“the real one is a thousand times bigger” – big brother) could fly high and take me to places where people are different and eat something else (according to my cousin). It was then on that very moment that I have decided to become an aviator but ended up being a freelance photographer; Good thing though, I still travel a lot by plane (with discount airfare, thanks to sponsors) to capture scenes for photo shoots. Was I disappointed? Nah…I found out that it’s a lot better to experience traveling (flying, landing, shopping, eating) than just navigating the 1000-times-bigger-in-real-life wooden plane. Will I recommend traveling then? No doubt.
Traveling is for everyone. The rewards are great. The memories it makes marks a lifetime. It does not matter whether you got on a plane with cheap tickets and are heading to a cheap hotel because what matters most is the experience itself (of getting lost, broken showers and unexpected friendship from hospitable taxi drivers). But if in case you would want to try something else (what is it like in a private suite with a Jacuzzi), all you have to do is to plan your itinerary ahead of time and book at the earliest possible time (2 months ahead already cuts a big chunk off the airfare budget) because you can avail of vacation packages from online traveling agencies and will surely find something that suits your demands. If you are a travelling enthusiast like me, well it’s good to register to a trusted and reliable travel website so that you can receive notifications about their promos and cheap rates especially during the off-peak season. I myself avail of off peak promos because it is the time where I can maximize the experience (less tourists, more fun). It is also in these sites where I learn a lot about the dos and don’ts in certain places (respect for other’s culture and tradition – traveler’s mantra) and the location of hotels, from the small, home-like ones to the grandeur and over-priced ones.
And because I simply cannot travel around the world in 80 days, I’d just settle to travelling around the world in low fare rates.
