My way of expressing emotions has always been through writing and photography. Water and nature have always been my comfort zone. Once I dreamt of showing the world what my eyes see. Armed with a digicam and my laptop, now I can!

From Lovely Bones to Lovely Homes

February 9, 2010

I am not quite sure if it’s just the aftereffect of reading Sebold’s Lovely Bones (I hope the motion picture interpretation of the book was as successful) or too much primetime news but one thing is for sure, I want a Home Security thingy installed and all the other “extras” that comes along with it. No! I am not a fan of the Big Brother House (with cameras capturing the way cringe when you pee) but am not also one who would want to experience what the family of Susie (the owner of the “lovely bones”) had. Of course it’s just a book, but reality bites you know (just check out New York Times’ headlines).

In my search for the perfect home security systems, I did my part (I called neighbors, asked relatives and officemates) and found out that I am not alone in my quest. Some are also thinking of having one installed while some are already paying for the services of ADT in Florida. Some of those whom I have interviewed were more than happy to share with me their experiences and the security they now are enjoying all because they have decided to purchase ADT in FL. They even told me that the package includes a motion detector, remote access, alarm siren and a digital keypad.

But since my current state is California, I tried surfing the net to look for a security system, a team or an ADT in California. A particular ad of a security team that has a branch here (ADT in CA) caught my skeptic eye. They claim to trained professionals who will monitor your home 24/7.With just a click of a button; access to 911, police and fire station is already within my reach. Now that is how I define security with perks. But since I have not really experienced how it would be like to have a security system installed, will someone please offer me some “light!” Are those mentioned in the ad enough? Do I need to demand for more? Will all those “high-tech gadgets” make me sleep like a baby? Will the security they are offering really compensate for the monthly bills?

It is not that I am not willing to shell out a dollar a day (estimate average for having a security system installed), these jitters are just bugging me. I have a job (not to mention the few dollars I earn for ranting in blog sites) and even if I do not earn the way the creator of FaceBook does, I also deserve to have my home (which includes my laptop and my dog) secured. Yes I know, my clothes are scattered on the floor, an empty box of pizza from last Saturday’s night out is still on the center table; but this does not mean that I don’t deserve a lovely (and secured) home, right?
